Still nervous about riding a bike on city streets? (You know sidewalks are a big no-no, right?) Try one of these group rides, which are not only hella fun but also serve as a training ground of sorts for new riders. Other riders provide a buffer while you absorb their good habits.

Bike to Work Day

Friday, May 16

Join countless others across the country for Bike to Work Day. CoGo Bike Share’s leading a ride of its own starting at 7 a.m. at 610 Oak St., or just go it alone and ride in solidarity.

Sunday Slow Ride

1 p.m. Sunday, May 18

Goodale Park

120 W. Goodale Blvd., Short North

This weekly ride adopts a no-rider-left-behind mantra by making a point to go as slow as the slowest rider. Usually lasting about two hours, the first Sunday Slow Ride of the year is this weekend.

CFL CoGo Classic II

2-5 p.m. Sunday, May 18

The Jury Room, 22 E. Mound St., Downtown

Participants can choose between a half marathon and marathon distance, while touring some of Columbus’ best restaurants. Each stop will include food and drink specials.

11thRide of Silence

7 p.m. Wednesday, May 21

The Ohio Statehouse, 1 Capitol Sq., Downtown.

A silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while riding a bicycle on public roadways. A police escort accompanies, as will Dispatch writer and avid cyclist Steve Wartenberg (who was injured in a bike accident last year). This will be Wartenberg’s first public ride since the accident.

5th Annual World Naked Bike Ride

10 p.m. Saturday, June 14

400 W. Rich

Yep. Pretty much exactly what it sounds like. Bare as much as you dare on this evening summer ride (few things are more wondrous).

Mayor's Twilight Ride

6:30 p.m. Friday, July 11

River South

233 S. Civic Center Dr., Downtown

Mayor Coleman's annual ride through the heart of Columbus goes down in July. This unique tour takes riders through downtown.
