Fashion: What are you wearing, DJ Whit Taylor?
DJ Whit Taylor didn’t come into her own until she cut off all her hair.
“I had natural, waist-length hair for a long time. Before I left for college, I wanted to cut it all off but nobody would do it without my mother’s permission,” Taylor said. “Once I did, I finally felt like myself. I was finally me.”
According to Taylor, style is all about balancing her inner tomboy and her feminine side. The 22-year-old will be headed to sea this spring to be a staff DJ on a cruise line, but you can catch her on the decks at “Sex Chamber: No Whips All Hips” at The Summit (2210 Summit St.) on Friday, March 20.
Hair: “Cutting my hair was like finding part of myself. I will probably have short hair the rest of my life — it’s so liberating.”
Earrings: Borrowed from my mother. “With short hair it’s important to bring out your features with accessories. I like the bold look of these earrings.”
Shirt: Express for men. “I love the clean, professional look of men’s clothing. I will probably wear a suit to my wedding. For me (and most other women), it’s difficult to find a good dress shirt that fits close to the body without gapping at the chest, but Express men’s shirts do the trick.”
Shorts: Walmart. “I have nice legs, so I like to show them off without showing too much skin. I feel more comfortable in men’s clothing. Khakis go with absolutely anything, so they are a great staple piece.”
Watch: Nordstrom. “I am into things matching well. The rhinestones on this white watch are fabulous, and set off the shirt.”
Nails: Manicure by Yolanda McCall. “I normally rock red nail polish, but I thought the black would be a nice contrast with the crisp white shirt. When I DJ, all the focus is on my hands so I like my nails to look good.
Shoes: Bought at Easton. “High-top shoes make me feel like a G. I love a camouflage pattern because it reminds me of nature. Whoever designed these shoes is a beast.”
