Things We Love: Picks from Sarob

Rising Columbus artist Sarob had a breakthrough 2017 with his debut EP, Seeing in the Dark, which garnered more than 750,000 streams since its release late last year. In January, he was featured as one of Alive's Bands to Watch, and on May 21 he released a short project,Transitions: Phase I, accompanied by an essay and several visual pieces. Sarob will perform his first headlining show on Saturday, June 2 at the Basement — the first of many big steps he's taking this summer. Here are a few of his favorite things:

Forget by Twin Shadow

I don't know how I stumbled upon this album, but I can't stop listening to it. It's really soothing, which has been helpful to me as of late, since I've been all over the place planning my summer. "Castles in the Snow" is my favorite joint. It's a song I feel takes me somewhere. Good music does that.

Jeni's frose sorbet

All right, listen — this sorbet is wild. As a vocalist, I try to avoid dairy products, but also I'm a sucker for ice cream, milkshakes, malts, etc. Actually, I get milkshakes a lot, so maybe I'm not trying that hard. Anyway, I at least want to do better, so I bought frose(non-dairy, I hope)and it was super fire. I'll definitely be copping more. (Jeni, if you see this, send mefrose, please! Thanks, xoxo.)

This doesn't actually need much explanation, so I'll keep it brief: It's Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. Together. I don't even know what happened in the movie or if it made any sense. Didn't matter. Give me Pacino.Give me De Niro.Script isn't important. Cinematography is a luxury.Directing isn't needed. Let me see them act. 10/10, obviously.

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski

Okay, I'll come clean because I know my friends are going to roast me if I don't: I've been reading this book for like five months. It's really good, and it's not even that long. I think my attention span is just trash or something. I don't know. Anyway, I love mystery and thriller novels, and this is definitely one of my favorites. It's wild. And it really draws you in almost like you're exploring a long, cavernous hallway that leads to ... OK, maybe I've said too much. Y'all should check it out.

Air conditioning

This is what I've really been rocking with lately. Totally underrated. I'll probably be using a lot of it this summer since it's already 80,000 degrees out. *sigh*
