Male men

Writer-director John Hamburg takes the male bonding of 40-Year-Old Virgin and Superbad to its next logical step, building a comedy around a mousy, friend-challenged real estate broker (Paul Rudd) who embarks on a new bromance with Jason Segel's crude but lovable slacker.

The terrific cast (Rashida Jones, J.K. Simmons, Jane Curtin, Jaime Pressly, Andy Samberg) is enjoyable to watch, partly for the fun they have altering rom-com tropes to fit same-sex friendship, but some have too little to do. And though Hamburg generally keeps the laughs coming, his film occasionally falls prey to the very stereotypes it means to send up.
