Staff Pick: Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

Marilyn Monroe's dichotomous legacy was the subject of my undergraduate senior honors thesis. I think she's fascinating, but here's why else you should go. "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" has themes that are like nails on a post-women's-lib chalkboard (i.e. hair color is the Holy Grail, and women are wooed by shiny things), but it's a Technicolor musical masterpiece.

Any movie lover should be required to see the crazy color palette and iconic cinematography of the "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" scene on the big screen. Also, it's a Marilyn career highlight, and good luck not falling in love with the 1953 musical's other leading lady, Jane Russell.
