Movie review: Celeste and Jesse Forever

Brad Keefe, Columbus Alive

"Celeste and Jesse Forever" is a relationship that looks good on paper. But, as anyone who has ever been in a relationship knows, sometimes things just don't work out.

It's not you, it's me, maybe?

The talented and funny Rashida Jones co-wrote and stars as Celeste. Jesse is the likeable and goofy Andy Samberg. They play a separated couple who remain best friends. It seems like a good fit.

But it strangely never rises to the opportunity. There's an ebb and flow to Celeste and Jesse's relationship, but it never really grabs at the heart.

Jones and Samberg get a chance to show their dramatic chops, and both show talent you may not expect. Unfortunately, they don't get as much chance to show how funny they can be.

Even as the "will they or won't they?" story played out, I ended up asking "Do I care?" Color me disappointed.
