Other new releases

"Dracula Untold"

A Dracula origin story without all that pesky vampire stuff? Yep, it's an action-adventure take on the man behind the fangs. Happy Halloween?

"The Judge"

Robert Downey Jr. plays a big-city lawyer who returns to his hometown to defend his father (Robert Duvall) in a murder trial. Oh, and his dad is a judge.

"Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day"

Disney adapts a children's book about a boy who has a bad day and, apparently, a thesaurus. Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner star as parents.

"Addicted"

A thriller based on a book about a seemingly perfect marriage that unravels when infidelity leads to dangerous consequences. No, not that one. Another one.

"Pride"

The winner for coolest "based on a true story" of the week is this tale of gay activists who become unlikely allies for union miners during a strike in the U.K. (Drexel Theatre)

"20,000 Days on Earth"

For die-hard Nick Cave fans, all I need to say is "it's awesome," but even if you don't own Murder Ballads (you should), this documentary is a fascinating look at the artistic process. (3 1/2 stars)
