“The Interview”

So maybe you heard something about this little James Franco-Seth Rogen comedy about North Korea? Sony’s last-minute decision to allow independent theaters to show it means Columbus will get its chance. Gateway Film Center and the Grandview Theatre have limited showings starting on Christmas. Check their listings.

In her second feature behind the camera, director Angelina Jolie has her sights on year-end awards with the true story of Olympic runner and prisoner of war Louis Zamperini.

“The Imitation Game”

Benedict Cumberbatch plays Alan Turing, leader of the British team who cracked a key Nazi code and was eventually convicted of charges stemming from a homosexual relationship.

“The Gambler”

A remake of the 1974 film of the same name (not, unfortunately, the Kenny Rogers song), it stars Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman and the ever-underrated Brie Larson.

Alive recommends

Really, any of the theatrical releases on my Top 20, but the Gateway is bringing back Richard Linklater’s amazing “Boyhood,” so you have no excuse to miss it this time around.
