Blue Steel returns: Zoolander sequel announced for 2016

The sequel for the 2001 male modeling comedy "Zoolander" got an official announcement and release date today in appropriately ridiculous fashion, with stars Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson walking the Valentino runway for Paris Fashion Week.

For the fashionable among you, here's the description of their outfits: "Derek wears a custom Night Butterflies brocade suit with hand-embroidered overcoat and black Creeper shoes. Hansel wears a Silk Continent print Pajama suit with Double Cashmere overcoat and Open sneakers." (I assume that weird capitalization is just a fashion thing.)

Paramount Pictures hasn't released many details on "Zoolander 2" - hey, that's what a buzz-building stunt like this is for, right? - but they have a February 12, 2016 release date. Per IMDB, Justin Theroux will write and direct, and, yes, Will Ferrell's Mugatu will return.

The inspired silliness of the original "Zoolander" got a little thin over the course of a movie - and comedy sequels are generally not that great - but there are definitely worse ideas for sequels than this. Color me cautiously optimitic.
