New in theaters:

“The Water Diviner”

Russell Crowe stars as a farmer in search of his sons who went to fight in Turkey in this movie that was nominated for eight (Australian) Academy Awards.

The latest animated feature from Bill Plympton looks at a whirlwind romance that is strained by another woman. The famed animator will introduce the film’s 7 p.m. Monday showing at the Gateway Film Center.

“Kung Fu Killer”

The Gateway also opens this Hong Kong actioner about a serial killer who is targeting martial arts masters, which seems like a bad idea.

Limited screenings:

20thAnnual Ohio Shorts Showcase

The Wexner Center will host this juried collection of works by Ohio filmmakers, with a reception with the filmmakers to follow on Saturday, April 25, at 7 p.m. It’s just $3 admission, which is just 15 cents per short!

“Back to the Future”

The continuing Nite Owl Theatre series introduced by local legend Fritz the Nite Owl brings Marty McFly back in time and back on the big screen at the Gateway.

Alive recommends:

“While We’re Young”

Noah Baumbach’s take on an adrift middle-aged NYC couple who makes friends with some hipsters is one of the year’s best comedies. (3 ½ stars)

Also playing:

“True Crime”

An intriguing real life story of a disgraced journalist and an accused killer never takes off, thanks in part to the odd casting of Jonah Hill and James Franco.

“Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2”

In one of the most anticipated sequels of the year, all of the unanswered questions of Kevin James’ “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” will finally be answered!
