Brad Keefe, Columbus Alive
"Sing Street"

New release:

"Sing Street"

Irish writer/director/composerJohn Carney has made some truly lovely cinematic love letters to music ("Once," "Begin Again"). His latest looks even more personal, set around a boy growing up in Dublin who starts a band to impress a girl.

Alive recommends:

"Green Room"

This pulse-pounding thriller from the director of "Blue Ruin" is heavy on the tension and intensity as a touring punk band ends up witness to a murder.

Limited screenings:

"Evil Dead" (1981 and 2013) in 35mm

The Gateway Film Center continues to bring actual film back to the theater with a double feature of Sam Raimi's 1981 "The Evil Dead" andFede Alvarez's 2013 reboot, which is good in its own right and deserves revisited.
