Other new movie releases for the weekend of July 8

New release:
"Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates"
Two bro brothers (Adam Devine and Zac Efron) find wedding dates (Anna Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza) through an online ad. Hilarity ensues.
Limited screenings:
"Heavy Metal" in 35mm
The Gateway Film Center brings in another relic of animation for grown-ups with the 1981 sci-fi anthology cult classic. It features sex, violence and, duh, heavy metal.
Alive recommends:
"The Neon Demon"
Nicholas Winding Refn's latest is the definition of divisive, and it's definitely not for everyone. Ask your doctor if "Neon Demon" is right for you. (3 ½ stars)
Also in theaters:
"Independence Day: Resurgence"
Well, two decades later "Independence Day" got a sequel that delivered lots of alien-fighting flash but gives viewers virtually nothing to grasp onto emotionally or character-wise. Boo. (1 ½ stars)
