To the Kentucky press, she was known as "Tent Girl," a young woman killed, stuffed in a camping tent and discovered by a well-driller. To singer-songwriter Matt Bauer, she was the inspiration for a lush and moving song story, The Island Moved in the Storm, released last month. It's both a revival of America's murdered-girl ballad tradition and a coming-out party for a craftsman who moves expertly between bare folk arrangements that tighten the heartstrings and softer, dreamier ones that set them free.
