There's something magical and cathartic to singing along with a frontman named Pink Eyes when he snarls, "I want to feel you f---ing crack," and then becomes so hopelessly desperate that he's forced to use the F word multiple times in the next sentence. This is the world of F---ed Up, a Canadian hardcore band that renews the artistic possibilities of streamlined anger. The Chemistry of Common Life, out last week, is a 2008 gem and a sign of life in a genre many left for dead a decade ago.
