To the Mex

Columbus Alive

In March, I wrote an Alive cover story about the primitive, abrasive, drug-fueled community of bands that have become known as "shitgaze." Columbus is more or less ground zero for this scene, but prominent local groups like Times New Viking and Psychedelic Horseshit have like-minded friends all over the world.

One such international band of mystery is Los Llamarada, a Mexican ensemble that carries the torch for art-damaged weirdness south of the border.

A mariachi combo these guys are not. Their sound hops around a bit from Pixies alt-pop to Fall-style gruel to shapeless dismay, always wrapped in enough mystical feedback to recreate Max's Kansas City. It oughta be fun to see them with Horseshit Sunday at The Summit.

What: Los Llamarada
