Marquee: Honey Honey

When they signed to Ironworks, California outfit Honey Honey not only secured label backing, they acquired some famous help. Ironworks co-founder Kiefer Sutherland took a break from international intrigue to direct and co-star in the video for "Little Toy Gun," the first single off Honey Honey's most recent disc First Rodeo. Without the name dropping, the band stands out for its diverse assortment of radio-friendly pop and profanity-inflected folk.

Guitar tracks from co-conspirator and songwriter Ben Jaffe offer clean acoustic strumming and stabbing riffs of electric twang amid keyboards, strings and percussion applied with a light touch.

At the center, vocalist-violinist Suzanne Santo slips girlishly between Fiona Apple's emotive flow and Amy Winehouse's sassy flirtation, with an irreverence and theatricality that, sadly, neither has been able to sustain. Expect their opening set for Gavin DeGraw to be a lively one.
