Marquee: Heartless Bastards

When Heartless Bastards' official biography gets to the part where the sultry, twangy garage band gets discovered by the Black Keys, signs to Fat Possum and experiences breakout success, it drops this bomb:

"By whatever yardstick you care to measure, it was high time for Erika to get out of Dayton."

Now, I've been known to do a little hatin' on Dayton in my day, but in the name of the great state of Ohio, I took great offense at this line.

Sure, this year's The Mountain is the group's finest work, a leather-tough set of thinking (wo)man's rock 'n' roll. But who's to say Erika Wennerstrom wouldn't have crafted something so solid from her previous perch in the tri-state area had she not moved to Austin?

At least Wennerstrom sees fit to come back and visit sometimes, as she'll do Saturday with Wing & Tusk in tow.
