Rocktober: Atlas Sound
When Bradford Cox isn't making superb shoegazey psych records with Deerhunter or being a constant target of the scandal-hungry blogarazzi, he creates solo recordings as Atlas Sound.
His second album under that guise, Logos, sounds like a Deerhunter release with one significant difference: That band's songs always feel like they could catch on fire at any moment; Atlas' sound is a gauzy slog through the gullies and marshes of Cox's subconscious, with occasional stumbles into a raging river (see the superb Panda Bear collaboration "Walkabout").
It's a fitting match for openers Broadcast, whose dreamy electro-pop has been a staple of texture-obsessed audiophiles for many years now.
