Marquee: Southeast Engine

Slowly but surely over the course of a decade, Southeast Engine has been making a name for itself. With each new set of theologically charged allegories has come a few more fans at shows, a slight sales bump and a handful of extra ink spilled about Athens' foremost indie-rock outfit.

The latest, From the Forest to the Sea, continued the band's steady ascent, earning them praise in Paste's "The Best of What's Next" issue and a Daytrotter online radio session, among other pleasant press-kit fare. But all this climbing exhausted the band, so they took a six-month break after the spring tour in support of their latest opus.

The brief jaunt that brings them here Friday will find Southeast Engine rubbing the sand from the corner of its eyes and resuming that artistically fruitful slog toward recognition.
