Marquee: Cloud Nothings at Cafe Bourbon Street

It's similar to what befell San Diego basement maestros Wavves, who became an overnight sensation before teenage kingpin Nathan Williams could develop into a seasoned live performer. Williams' touring troubles have been well documented, and judging from Cloud Nothings' uninspiring performance last month at Skylab, this band might have a rough go of it too.

That was only their second or third gig, and you could tell. To be fair, the sound situation was atrocious, but so was the stage presence. Other than the bravura drummer, they were barely keeping it together. So let's hope they've sharpened up by this weekend, when they'll play alongside Darlings, Boogie Boarder and 84 Nash frontman Kevin Elliott's new project Gold Circle.
