Two albums later, they're still cranking out country-fried noise pop that strikes just the right balance between grizzled and glorious.

Take "Gone Missing," in which Walker's soprano drifts from full-blast to fragile and back, bolstered on the refrain by Cleaver's sturdy backing vocals: "It always ends like this." The music drifts from lazy Midwestern drone to foreboding death spiral.

Weathered and hurting but stubbornly hopeful, the Cincinnati band plays out like comfort food from a five-star chef - a hearty platter with a master's touch for detail. Dig in Saturday at the Treehouse, where they'll play with The Fervor, The Exceptionals and Joe Anderl's The 1984 NFL Draft.
