Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson at The Summit
Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson concocts a pleasant enough brew of '90s slacker rock, folk, country and the cross-cultural sounds emanating from his borough. But it's pretty easy to dismiss all the attention headed his way as undue thanks to the right locale (Brooklyn), the right friends (members of Grizzly Bear and TV on the Radio appear on his albums) and a name - make that a series of names - that sticks out nearly as much as John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt.
After perusing Robinson's "Summer of Fear" and watching him amble through a set at Milo Arts a couple years back, I'm inclined to agree with the shoulder-shruggers, though I could be convinced of Robinson's powers by a passionate case from a devotee or a heart-stopping performance Wednesday at The Summit. Lord knows he'll have to bring it to compete with Shilpa Ray and Her Happy Hookers, who'll also appear along with Suckers.
When: 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 24
