Sherwood at Skully's

Sherwood is an honest-to-god pop band, an identity the San Luis Obispo band makes no effort to hide. These dudes are nothing if not comfortable in their own skin - Nate Henry's vocals soar undeterred by irony, recalling the earnest yearnings of Switchfoot and their arena-ready ilk.

Their lack of art school cred doesn't mean they ain't creative, though. Latest LP "Qu" is slick and radio-ready yet bolstered by thoughtful arrangements (listen as the sounds bleed in and out of "Around You") and a full range of stylistic excursions, from Fall Out Boy-style mechanized mall punk ("Maybe This Time") to slow-burn piano balladry ("No Better") to the harmonized beachfront delight of "Make It Through."

They'll be at Skully's for an early tilt Sunday with Seabird, Reece and locals The Forties.

When: 5:30 p.m. Sunday, March 21
