Marquee: Past Lives at Cafe Bourbon Street

The new Fox TV series "Past Life" is your basic police procedural with a supernatural twist - the cops solve the crimes by getting visions from a previous existence. Riveting, I'm sure.

Seattle's Past Lives draws from a less time-honored but far more honorable tradition: art party post-punk. Judging from the prickly arpeggios and Jordan Billie's high-strung shouts, they're big fans of Les Savy Fav. Liars-style falsetto and Talking Heads background sounds heighten the drama.

The real legacy in play here, of course, is Blood Brothers, for whom Billie, Morgan Henderson and Mark Gajadhar played until the seminal screamo band's 2007 breakup. Together with original Blood Brother Devin Welch, they've reined in the rough edges but not the adventurous spirit.
