Local Music: City Lights

In case you thought Attack! Attack! were the only Columbus youths rampaging across the country with a studio-slick album and bangs in their eyes, know that City Lights have become just as ambitious a bunch of road warriors.

The two bands inhabit the same cultural universe - check out those MySpace glamour shots - but share little in common musically besides an affinity for intense audio compression.

While the originators of "crabcore" practice a mutant combination of metal, trance and crunk, City Lights deals in a much more straightforward brand of anthemic pop punk reminiscent of New Found Glory.

They released the "Rock Like a Party Star" EP last year and have been touring hard behind it ever since, a process that isn't stopping any time soon. After a pair of Ohio shows this weekend, including a stop at The Basement Friday, City Lights will embark on a massive coast-to-coast summer tour.

6 p.m. Friday, May 28

The Basement, Arena District
