Styx at the Palace Theatre

It's been almost five decades since the seeds of Styx were sewn on Chicago's South Side and a full two decades since "Show Me the Way" became the band's last significant chart hit. In between those landmarks, the band became one of history's most successful prog-rock combos, pop superstars prone to nerdy instrumental flourishes and fantastical, heart-on-sleeve lyrics. ("Come sail away with me!")

Sunday's Styx show is sure to offer plenty of flashbacks for diehards, but it's also a prime occasion for a display of ironic detachment. Should be a lot of fun regardless of whether you appreciate "Mr. Roboto" on a genuine or snarky level.
