Dead Prez at Skully's

"It's Bigger Than Hip-Hop" has been Dead Prez' motto since day one, but they're pretty damn good at hip-hop anyway.

The rap revolutionaries don't fall victim to the problems that plague a lot of political rap. That is, they don't let their anger get in the way of a good hook - or a good joke for that matter. The "Hell Yeah" video is a lot more entertaining than M.I.A.'s super-serious attempts to outrage bourgeois white people.

They'll play Skully's on Friday toting a new mixtape called "Turn Off the Radio Vol. 4: Revolutionary But Gangsta Grillz." Among the openers will be Columbus ex-pat Copywrite, set to release a new album of his own, "The Life And Times Of Peter Nelson," next month.

Unruly Records, Apocalypse Inc., and the ubiquitous The 3rd round out the bill.
