Good Old War at the Basement
Those Philadelphia bands are experts at delving into pop's past and coming up with something contemporary. Following in the footsteps of neighbors like The Teeth and Dr. Dog, Good Old War applies retro harmonies and arrangements to a modern indie rock template, and the results can be stirring for anyone who doesn't consider "Beatlesesque" a dirty word.
Good Old War puts a slightly folksy spin on that formula, making them something like a cross between Guster and Mumford & Sons - anathema for punks and nihilists, but probably catnip to the kids who don't flinch at paying Ticketmaster service fees.
Lucius and Cincinnati's The Ridges will open Sunday's show.
