Sic Alps at Carabar

Staff Writer
Columbus Alive

Sic Alps is your favorite indie band's favorite indie band. "Napa Asylum," the trio's first LP since 2008's heralded "U.S. EZ," shows why: These dudes stitch together nauseous psych-pop shards better than anybody since the basement heyday of Guided by Voices.

The difference is Sic Alps has gnarly blues swagger in its bones. If GBV offered a natural extension of the closing suite from "Abbey Road," Sic Alps reaches for the raw ruminations of "Plastic Ono Band" with the unsteady hand of a drug-addled outsider folkie.

They'll make their glorious return to Columbus Monday at Carabar with Psychedelic Horseshit.
