Staff Pick: Papercuts at the Wex
Papercuts head honcho Jason Quever writes hooks as bright and shining as the Golden Gate Bridge then shrouds them in a Pacific fog that rarely breaks.
His songs are a perfect fit for Sub Pop Records in the post-Postal Service era: vaguely rootsy, slightly angsty, artsy without coming within miles of avant-garde. It's what Fleet Foxes might sound like if they wandered out of the woods, trimmed their beards and combed the burrs out of their tangles.
The equally dreamy but significantly more British act Still Corners will open.
