Staff Pick: White Hills at Cafe Bourbon Street

White Hills is like record-nerd catnip. The NYC band is steeped in the spaced-out psychedelic tradition of Hawkwind. They coat their guitars in sludge like grunge bands did before "grunge" was a word. Their latest album, "H-p1," dabbles in krautrock repetition and drone. It's a beast of a record.

All this is to say White Hills will make a fine headliner at "The Sonic Saturnalia," one of several gigs local rock promoter Paul Bearer organized to celebrate his birthday. The Main Street Gospel and Eye round out the ceremony.
