Staff Pick: Devin the Dude at Skully's

Yes, Devin the Dude’s material is often labeled as “spaced out” or “weed rap” (see albums titled “Waitin’ to Inhale,” “Suite 420”). Sure, his performance at Skully’s will surely be laced with weed references and Caddy love, but this is just poor characterization. Devin’s flow is buttery smooth, and he’s lyrically on par with mainstream hit-makers like Jay-Z or Lil Wayne. Anyone who’s heard the anthemic, funky “See What I Can Pull” or the spectacular “Lacville ’79,” far superior to Dr. Dre’s “Let Me Ride” — no offense, Dre — knows Devin is one of the best in the game. You should be happy Devin hasn’t blown up and you can still catch him in a club setting like Skully’s.
