Preview: Chevy Woods at Skully's

Chris DeVille, Columbus Alive

Given his utilitarian flow - he sounds like a heftier, less gleefully childish version of his Taylor Gang associate Wiz Khalifa - it's hard to imagine Chevy Woods ascending to Skully's headliner status were he not enjoying runoff success from Wiz. Now that he's here, though, Woods is making the most of it, dropping a string of suitably ridiculous party tracks ("Party hard late night - Jimmy Fallon") and gangster boasts that come off like Pittsburgh's best approximation of West Coast G-funk circa "2001."

Enthralling? No. Satisfying? You bet your Bombay Sapphire it is.

Cameron Grey, Cali Kid Dubz, Daverse, $kee Dolla and E Smallz open Wednesday's show. -Chris DeVille
