Preview: Craig Finn at The Basement

Jesse Tigges, Columbus Alive

Craig Finn is one hell of a storyteller. The Hold Steady's "Boys and Girls in America" is recognized as much for its heavy narratives about drug addiction, redemption and general malaise as it is for the chugging guitars and Finn's signature rasp.

Finn's debut solo effort, "Clear Heart Full Eyes," conveys much of the same lyrical themes and musical styles as his band's previous work, and why not? There are plenty of good stories left to tell. The album distinctively displays Finn's growth over the years but carries enough of the past that fans will be quite comfortable with the familiar.
