Staff Pick: Other Lives at The Basement
Other Lives opened for Bon Iver last year. They're opening for Radiohead later this year. That's appropriate, not just because the Stillwater quintet deserves it - holy hell, is this band good! - but because they basically sound like the midpoint between those headliners. Last year's "Tamer Animals" LP is founded on a fruitful convergence of Justin Vernon's rustic sprawl and Thom Yorke's space-age paranoia, serviced by their own 3G network of sorts: grim, graceful and grandiose. WIM opens Saturday's show, perhaps this city's last chance to see Other Lives in such close quarters.
