Preview: Heartless Bastards at The Basement

John Ross, Columbus Alive

Hearts broke in 2007 when Erika Wennerstrom relocated to Austin from Ohio. Still, she and her Heartless Bastards have maintained their Buckeye ties with regular tour stops here and music steeped in the state's long tradition of indie Americana.

The outfit returns to The Basement on Saturday, two days after releasing the new album "Arrow."

Darker 2009 release "The Mountain" opened with the raw and droning title track, then delved into introspective territory. "Parted Ways," the lead single from "Arrow," comes with Wennerstrom's engaging, poignant twang and the hopeful tone of a band gaining momentum.

Hacienda opens.
