Staff Pick: Mindless Self Indulgence at the Newport

Brad Keefe, Columbus Alive

At the opening night of Mindless Self Indulgence's first tour after a three-year hiatus, frontman Jimmy Urine reportedly said, "Ten years ago, MTV told us we were 10 years ahead of our time."

Seems about right, as MSI's unique brand of bouncy electro-punk seemed a bit alien at the time. They're bringing one of the most energetic and unabashedly fun live shows I've ever seen back to the Newport.

Hope for a set heavy on their early material - the frenetic electro stuff is better than the later industrial that landed them a Hot Topic following.

And enjoy Urine's downright Vaudevillian between-song banter. It's really some of the funniest in the business.
