Barring further hype-cycle ladder climbing, Cleveland combo Chomp is best known as an offshoot of the incredible Cloud Nothings. Chomp will get a chance to make their own name Thursday at Tree Bar, where they’re stopping off to headline after a week on tour with the mothership.

The occasion for the visit: Debut LP “Buddah Jabba Momma” is out this week on Cleveland label Exit Stencil. From the sounds of early singles “Throw Out Your Wish List” and “Done Waiting,” the (terribly named, expertly performed) album breaks the opposite direction from Cloud Nothings’ coming-of-aggression “Attack On Memory,” opting for the guitar pop career path many expected Cloud Nothings to pursue before frontman Dylan Baldi developed an obsession with The Wipers.

Extra Medium Pony also plays Thursday.
