Columbus Alive

Wondering why Daniel Ellsworth & the Great Lakes has rumbled through Columbus so many times lately? Local native Marshall Skinner plays bass for the Nashville band, whose brand of airy, upbeat folk-rock renders it a featherweight equivalent to one-time welterweight champs Wilco and Tom Petty.
The group is touring behind LP “Civilized Man,” recorded with Andrew Bird/Lambchop/Bonnie “Prince” Billy producer Mark Nevers. As recent single “Bleeding Tongue” attests, it’s not all lighthearted fare, though the fluttering pop of “Shoe Fits” goes down liked canned lemonade — a little processed, but tasty anyway.
Neulore opens Friday’s show.
