Rocktoberfest preview/music premiere: The Regrettes
Rocktoberfest, Alive's annual fall concert extravaganza, is going down Friday at The Bluestone, 583 E. Broad St. You can get a quick overview of all the incredible performers in this handy preview, but this week we'll also be spotlighting each performer individually, one per day, leading up to Friday's big bash.
Today we feature The Regrettes, one of the most exciting bands to spring up in Columbus this year. I described them as such for the Facebook event: "Throwback R&B and soul sensations with a thing for Stax and Motown, powered by two magnetic leading ladies." That sums up their appeal and their approach, but it doesn't do justice to how much fun this band is in person. The live show is jubilant and invigorating, faithfully channeling decades of musical quality but never at the expense of fun. It's simply six talented people having a blast playing music they love, and it's contagious. Their debut album "Don't Talk Back," coming Nov. 30 (pending the success of this Kickstarter), looks to be among the year's best. (Check out three songs below!) I've been trying to book them for an Alive event all year, and I couldn't be happier to have them bringing Rocktoberfest into its home stretch.
The Regrettes perform at midnight this Friday at Rocktoberfest. (RSVP here.) Below, find three new recordings from their upcoming album, "Don't Talk Back," including new single "This Means War," a new version of local hit "Been Around (Too Long)" and another gem called "Satisfy You." Their Kickstarter video is down there too.
