Concert preview: You won't find catchier shambling singles outside The Beets

Queens combo The Beets may or may not be named after Doug Funnie's favorite British Invasion export, but they play with a childlike wonder that renders them perfect for Nickelodeon, or at least for bars partial to scrappy sing-along pop with twee tendencies. Friday, they'll pump Double Happiness full of joy with assistance from The Red Paintings.

Fans of droning boy-girl not-quite-pop, consider 2011's Let the Poison Out an acoustic-strummed analog to Times New Viking's ear-searing ruckus. You'd be hard-pressed to find a catchier set of shambling singles on either side of the radar.
