Concert preview: Grassroots success stories Lucero and Langhorne Slim set for Bluestone appearance

Chris DeVille, Columbus Alive

Lucero and Langhorne Slim are grassroots success stories, and not just because they both play rock music burrowed deep in American tradition - the former, scrappy cowpunks turned richly adorned cowboy balladeers; the latter, a folksy troubadour with gravelly gravitas who's recruited a backing band (Langhorne Slim and the Law, he calls it).

Sure, the bands have had some media help along the way here and there, but credit tireless touring and prolific productivity for their graduation to the expansive Bluestone from tiny rooms like Rumba Cafe. Rumba still has a hand in Wednesday's show, though, speaking of staying true to your roots.
