Preview: The People's Temple's dark psych could have come from a time capsule

Chris DeVille, Columbus Alive

Lansing's The People's Temple took its name from Jim Jones' quasi-religious sect of the '60s and '70s (the one that resulted in the mass suicide/murder known as Jonestown in 1978), and, save for a few crystalline stretches that could pass for Primal Scream, the band's brand of foreboding, bleary-eyed psych could easily have been imported directly from Jones' lifetime.

So if you're among those who bemoans that they don't make 'em like they used to, (a) you're wrong and (b) here you go. The band, which comprises two pairs of songwriting brothers, hits Double Happiness this Wednesday.
