Staff Pick: Rapper Rocko has more to offer than A-List guest stars

Talk about a modern life: Rocko’s biggest hit, “U.O.E.N.O.,” has been in the news for reasons almost entirely unrelated to him — specifically the despicable date rape lyrics that got Rick Ross dropped from Reebok.

And the song features Future sublimely robo-muttering the hook, which is as 2013 as it gets. But unlike Ace Hood’s similarly constructed “Bugatti,” Rocko’s hit has more to offer than high-profile guests.

Like 2 Chainz before him, Rocko clawed his way in to the spotlight after years grinding in Atlanta, and though he’s not as charismatic, Rocko also isn’t wasting his moment. “

I had to maximize my craft, get up off my ass,” he rapped last year, and his rugged bars suggest he’s ready to shine on some more marquee tracks — or at least at Long Street this Friday.
