Staff pick: The xx and Grizzly Bear are more intense than you think

Indie heavyweights The xx and Grizzly Bear are known for making somewhat sleepy music — The xx even sells a pillowcase at its merch table — so maybe they don’t exactly scream “summer fun!” (Actually, they rarely scream at all.) But both bands put on spellbinding live shows that find ways to unleash the energy simmering beneath the surface of their intimate recordings.

Grizzly Bear in particular pushed its exquisite chamber pop into more aggressive directions on last year’s Shields. I just saw them on a beach last month and it worked out great.

Theoretically either one of these acts could headline LC, so seeing them together as the sun sets will be something special.
