Concert previews: Alabama Shakes' fuzzed-out Southern rock will be electrifying at the LC

What a ruckus and uplifting year Alabama Shakes have had; this fuzzed-out, Southern rock group has garnered three 2013 Grammy Award nominations and a "Saturday Night Live" appearance earlier this year.

The band swelled fast, too-all this praise occurred around the release of its debut record, Boys & Girls.

Rightly so, this band invokes a hodgepodge of sounds that seem universally craved; lead singer/guitarist Brittany Howard sings like a gruffer Amy Winehouse, and her backing band has a knack for straight-up-and-simple blues rock a la Black Keys or previous tour mate Jack White.

By paying these kinds of homages, Alabama Shakes is well-suited for the live atmosphere. It's doing up the LC outdoors when in town so the show will be extra electrifying-hopefully it doesn't rain.
