Concert preview: Against the odds, The Hood Internet keeps wringing magic out of mashups
Mashups already seemed passé when The Hood Internet emerged in 2007, six years after the Strokes/Xtina big bang. But the Chicago production duo continues to blend songs together, and the results continue to compel for the most part.
To behold their timely Kanye/Daft Punk throwback mashup “Doing It Good” is to be delighted, and their deployment of Chiraq drill sergeant King Louie at the outset of The Mixtape Volume Seven is a heavenly burst of hometown pride, though their Miguel/Bon Iver mashup is to be avoided at all costs.
They’ll have The Bluestone blissed out when they take the decks Thursday after Attak & Carma, Heady Ruxpin, Entel and Fallsteeze.
