“Legendary” is an adjective that is commonly thrown around in the hip-hop world these days and is rarely an apt characterization. This weekend will see five rappers coming to Columbus that challenge anyone’s interpretation of the word.

Scarface, 8Ball & MJG, Juvenile and Mystikal will invade The LC on Saturday night for the “Legends of Hip Hop Showcase” and will strut out nearly 110 years of combined professional rap experience in careers that have produced numerous classic albums throughout the last three decades. Get to know them below.

A member of the famed hip-hop group Geto Boys, Scarfacehas been widely regarded as one of the greatest lyricists in the genre’s history and a pioneer of Southern hip-hop music among other collectives such as Outkast, Three 6 Mafia and Goodie Mob. Face started his solo career in 1991 with the release of his critically acclaimed album, Mr. Scarface Is Back, one of the most influential angsta ap albums of all time.

8Ball & MJG

The Memphis duo has been in the rap game since the early ’90s, starting primarily with their critically acclaimed Comin’ Out Hard album, which saw heavy commercial success and established 8Ball & MJG as one of the most influential hip-hop groups at the time. The group is perhaps best known more recently for their appearance on Three 6 Mafia’s 2005 hit song “Stay Fly.”

Known for his hit records “Back That Azz Up” and “Slow Motion,” Juvenile is one of the founding members of the late ’90s collective Hot Boys and an original signee to Cash Money Records (later affiliated with Young Money YMCMB). He has released 16 albums including nine solo efforts, three with Hot Boys, three with UTP and one with JT the Bigga Figga. Last June he dropped Rejuvenation, his most recent record.

The New Orleans native has perhaps the freshest career of those present Saturday. Mystikal is best known for his albums Unpredictable, Ghetto Fabulous and Let’s Get Readyall three of which were certified platinum ( becoming double platinum). A former No Limit Records signee and current YMCMB member, Mystikal is also known for his hit songs “Shake Ya Ass,” “Danger (Been So Long),” “That’s the N***a” and “Bouncin’ Back.” His Young Money debut, Originalis slated for release sometime this year.
