The hip-hop party AnimalXHouse, which brought the likes ofKendrick Lamar and Chance the Rapper to Columbus before they became breakout stars, is putting on two events as part of Wednesday’s Red White & Boom festivities. Both shows feature rising underground talent that could easily provide the party’s next “I was there” moment: First, the heady Kentucky MC Nemo Achida, then Chicago drill scene queen Katie Got Bandz.

Nemo Achida at Alive! Long Street Stage

Kentucky is not known as a hip-hop hotbed, but Lexington’s Nemo Achida is doing his best to put the Bluegrass State on the rap radar. A frequent collaborator with Columbus talents like King Vada (Achida jumped on Vada’s recent “Preserving Youth”) and Rashad (the Elev8tor Music head produced Achida’s new“Jngl Fvr”), he’s a good fit to headline AnimalXHouse’s Boom showcase alongside Ohio talents P. Blackk, Ezzy, The Natives and DJ Giovanny.

On last year’s Conversations With Myself EP, Achida rapped in a raspy, free-flowing gait that positions him as a peer of Chance the Rapper, but his more emotive tendencies gesture toward J. Cole. He’s certainly correct to admit he’s “Still Not Mr. West,” but who is, really?

Katie Got Bandz atSkully’safterparty

Katie Got Bandz hails from Chicago’s thudding, nihilistic drill scene, the samecommunity that birthed Chief Keef, King Louie and Young Chop. But whereas those guys make gangster rap terrifying enough to spawn thousands of think pieces, Katie’s version of drill music is practically jubilant. You gotta have a sense of humor to release a mixtape called Drillary Clinton

That’s not to say she’s particularly friendly. Among her first words on Drillary Clinton are “Two things I love to do is kill bitches and murder beats”Given the playful demeanor throughout the tape, such taunts read more like playful braggadocio, but considering who she hangs out with, you never know…

Joining Katie at the afterparty will be Atlanta’s Two-9 and Pilot.
