Concert preview: Jamey Johnson revives hard-living country outlaw persona

Hard-living outlaw country dudes are supposed to be relics of a bygone era, but Jamey Johnson is living, breathing proof that true grit still exists in Nashville.

Johnson’s latest, though, is both a look backward and a heartfelt outpouring. There’s nothing grizzled about a warmhearted tribute to the late Hank Cochran. For Living For a Song: A Tribute To Hank Cochran, Johnson recruited a stellar cast of country stars including Merle Haggard, Alison Krauss and Emmylou Harris to pay tribute to the icon behind songs like “I Fall to Pieces” and “Don’t You Ever Get Tired of Hurting Me.”

Back to the present: Can you imagine a more appropriate setting for Johnson than Scioto Downs? He’ll headline the “racino” this Saturday.
